Donna Merchant-Crooks

Artist Biography

Donna Merchant-Crooks is a professional artist and woodcarver. She works in a plethora of mediums and is accomplished in each of them.

Donna has a kinship with nature, where she finds solace and inspiration. She spent years cooking and pulling mule strings in Idaho’s Frank Church wilderness, developing an appreciation for the rare and untouched views of life. Today Donna’s wilderness is the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado. She sparks her creativity by fishing, hiking and horseback riding.

Donna is self taught. Ask her if she has worked in a particular medium and if she hasn’t, she’ll reply, “not yet”. She believes a person can do anything in increments. Her work proves this.

Most of Donna’s works have been commissioned. These pieces have challenged her to face the fears of raw creation, working in mediums she hadn’t considered. The adage is true for this artist, “the more you create, the more creative you get.”

Donna is currently building a body of work that reflects themes about women, i.e. their challenges, their joys, their friendships, their empowerment. Her pieces provoke a range of emotion and contemplation. She has chosen bronze as the medium for this body of work.

This particular body of work is also a part of a traveling presentation titled, “Can you hear me now!” It unveils powerful insights reflected through female form presented by the artist herself.

Donna’s work can be found in collectors’ homes and businesses across the United States and in a handful of Galleries.
