Oil Paintings

Donna Merchant-Crooks

“The Oil Painting Artist”

I make it a habit to wipe or  “chop” my brush  all around my canvas when I paint instead of washing the color off the brush before moving on to a different color.  Not only does it build up layers of color but it helps your eye to move around the painting when completed instead of being stuck in one spot.  I have also found that by chopping in complimentary colors side by side in small pixel like brush strokes I can create a bounce or movement that tricks the eye,  similar to painting a vibration.
